“Postpornographie: esthetics and policies of the sexual representation”
Posted in Infos external one 20.09.07 11:09
Seminar/with Beatriz Preciado philosophizes

One starts from an counter-intuitive assumption: the sex is not a private field, but a relational system, the effect of a whole of political devices (institutional, technical, performatifs…) of production and control of subjectivity.
Should be turned over the traditional problem. To put the questions more: How to release the subject of the pornography and how to protect individuality and the private character from the identity and the sexual practices? But to put these questions rather: How and according to which conditions the sex emerges in the field of the representation? Which are the government schemes through which the sex became an private affair? Which are the technical requirements (visual, performatives, institutional…) of production of the identities normal and deviating, of privatization of certain fictions of the sex and publicitation of the others in the post-industrial company?
In the disciplinary companies which invented the sexual identities, the medico-legal speech and psychology, then the mediae are presented in the form of only public spaces of production of speech and representation on the sex, the kind and sexuality. They are spaces of institutional standardization and regulation, in fine of criminalisation of sexualities and the bodies not-heterosexuals and not-white.
Homosexual feminism and movements, then the movements pro-sex which fight for the proliferation of the alternative pornographies and the legalization of sexual work were the first practical policies to try the creation of a public space of criticism and déconstruction of the sexes, kinds and sexualities.  Today the pansexuelles practices queer, transgenres and more widen this space of production of speech and representation like condition of possibility of emergence of a new political and aesthetic subject.
In opposition to the inspecting devices, censures and privatization, one affirms here the radically public character of the sex.
Vis-a-vis a middle-class public, apparently not-marked sexually, but actually codified as individual, male and heterosexual, one affirms here the existence of a sexual against-public (to take again the concept of Michael Warner), a Parliament of the informed, and not-flexible bodies which work with the development of the micropolitic strategies of representation and construction of minority subjectivitys.
This initiative, which gathers exposures, conferences, seminars, performatives practices, begins in Emmetrop in 2003 with a series of interventions around the policies and aesthetic queer and of a first workshop Drag King, followed by the projects, Dur with queer and YesPorno in which took part of the artists and activists like Del LaGrace Volcano, Queer MC, Laszlo Pearl, Béatriz Preciado, Virginia Despentes, Group Activiste Trans or Shue Lea Cheang,…
Beatriz Preciado, 2007

In the middle of the Eighties, the American actress porn Annie Sprinkle employs for the first time the term “post-pornography” to present her performance “The Public Cervix Announcement” during which the spectators are invited to explore the interior of its vagina using a speculum. A new representation of the sex and sexuality take shape then, which criticizes simultaneously the censure recommended by free trade feminism and the normative visibility produced by the medico-legal speech and the codes of the traditional pornography. This initiative opens the valves. Will follow, falling under theoretical and aesthetic spaces various: Shelly Mars, Fatal Video, Virginia Despentes and Coralie Trinh-Thi, Shar Rednour and Jackie Strano, Del LaGrace Volcano or Bruce Bruce… Starting from this radical and fascinating epistemological displacement like reference criticize work of Michel Foucault, Judith Butler or Linda Williams, this seminar analyzes the transformation of the politico-visual codes of the traditional pornography since Stag Movies until the current kinds which are Gonzo or JennyCam. It will be a question here of charting a whole of performances, installations, texts and visual representations which emergent of a critical glance on the dominant pornography and the standards of kind and sexuality that it produces.

ALTERMONDIALISME - ANTICAPITALISME
FOR AN ALTERNATE COSMOPOLITIQUE
Program Feminist Etudes section
Coordinators: Elsa Dorlin and Annie Bidet-Mordrel
University of Paris X Nanterre, building L, room 111
“Is Another world possible”, but which other world? A cosmopolitic alternative but which? Which fights to carry out to reach that point? Fights of which, with which and against which or what? With which objectives? Apprehended under the angle of the social reports/ratios of sex, these questions imply a turning. In very first place, a return criticizes on the concept of universalization. The feminist studies, by producing new tools, new concepts, reveal new problems and inter alia, the need for not thinking the juxtaposition of the reports/ratios of kind, class, of race, but their intrication as well as the articulation of total and the room. Intrication, articulation, which one cannot overlook if one wants to include/understand which political subjects can carry out the fights, which will give direction and contents so that could be a new world.
Therefore, from the point of view of the kind:
Which alternative analyses of universalization? Which social reports/ratios are concerned? Which political subjects are to be built and how?
The section “Studies feminist” proposes to study some strategic points, which make it possible to renew the apprehension of the facts of the case and of the solutions and the articulation of the fights to be carried out.

“Gloria Mundi” of Nico Papatakis in ETNA

Saturday June 9, 2007 with 20:00 with Etna
Projection of “Gloria Mundi” of Nico Papatakis
1:32 - color - 1.66

gloria_mundi.jpgNico Papatakis is a provocative scenario writer and militant. It supports J. Broom in 1951 by financing its film “a song of love” and J. Cassavettes by helping it to finish “Shadows”. Nico Papatakis carried out 4 feature-length films, of which Abyssals zone in 62 and Gloria Mundi in 75, little diffused because of the scandals that they caused in all the mediums.
“Gloria Mundi” speaks about torture. An actress plays the part of an Arab terrorist that parachutists torture in a film which remains unfinished. For better incarnating its character, she tortures itself. Narrowly frays, the fiction and reality make its life a martyrdom: separated from his son and his lover, a producer humiliates it, of the intellectuals of left make fun of his revolutionary faith… The film denounces torture in all its forms through a parallel with the war of Algeria. Taking into consideration current event, the film takes another dimension.

Retrospective Carole Roussopoulos with the Cineclub

CAROLE ROUSSOPOULOS,
GIANTESS OF THE POLITICAL CINEMA

“I wonder why people of cinema want so much to film the others with so much frenzy. One cannot need everyone like that. ” Jean-Luc Godard, “Letter with Carole Roussopoulos”, April 12, 1979, in Books of the Cinema n°300.
With an inexhaustible energy, a devastating humour, a historical relevance which is confirmed each day and since 1969 never stopped, Carole Roussopoulos de Kalbermatten, only or in collective, did not cease reinventing the forms of the test and the visual analysis by documenting the fights feminist, homosexual, working and anti-impérialistes. Its considerable work covers forty years of fights, forty years of combat always gained through intelligence and political, victorious know-how always on the legislative ground, ever acquired on the more moving ground of mentalities and the behaviors. Like she writes it itself on her CV: “It privileges the approach of the `without voix', of the anonymities which marked the history and supported by its work the fight of the women” - it would be necessary for operating a methodological bringing together between its work of immediate history and that which during the same decades achieveachieves Arlette Farge in retrospective history, both on the basis of theoretical proposal of Michel Foucault. Perhaps Pionnière of the video, virtuoso of the filmic, giant lampoon of the documentary policy following the example Joris Ivens, Rene Vautier, Chris Marker or Robert Kramer, to quote some of those which fought in images and at the present on all fronts, it does not need everyone, like asked him for Jean-Luc Godard, but us, we need it. Carole Roussopoulos incarnates for us the true beauty and the true joy. (Nicole Brenez)
