Mientras dormiamos (el caso Juarez) de Lorena Wolffer (2002, 10′)
"In While we’re sleeping (the Juárez scandal), Lorena Wolffer’s body, transformed as a symbolic card, is used
to document and give an account of fifty cases recorded in Juarez City (Mexico) where since the beginning of the nineties, more than 300 woman have been murdered and as many reported missing. The artist’s body becomes a vehicle of representation for the terrible violence suffered by these women. Violence, which today seems to be institutionalised." (distribution: le peuple qui manque)

Dandy Dust de Hans Scheirl
(Austria, 94’, 16mm, 1998)

Hans Scheirl, is a transgender Anglo-Austrian ilm maker and painter who belongs to the avant-garde circle of queer artists of the 90s who have reworked experimental films ever since illegitimate practices such as pornography. (…)
In 1998, he directed Dandy Dust, a cult film which borrowed from many cinematographic styles.
Inspired by films about gender (live-action Japanese manga series, horror films, feminism and Viennese Actionnism), Dandy Dust is a transgender feature-film in which the hybridization amongst sexual genders can only be equaled by the sophistication and beauty of the processes of fabrication; it is a sumptuous work about colors and substances, has a highly camp sense of exaggeration and reveals the poetical and violent crudeness of a proliferating sexual universe.
Hans Scheirl explores the utopian potential of video films through the fluidity of identities, involving masculine/feminine, the decadent 18th century/ science-fiction (a post-apocalyptic period and the poetry of techno culture) within a shattered, polymorphous narrative. It is a daydream that makes use of art, the media, technological developments, medicine, and artificial bodies. According to Hans Schierl, “A human being becomes a cyborg when a cyborg possesses blood ties with a computer, video and interactive techniques.” (Hans Scheirl, « Manifesto for the Dada of the Cyborg-Embrio », in The Eight technologies of otherness, éd. Sue Golding, London, 1997, p.55.)
