Remember for instance the intense controversy surrounding Yannick Haenel\u2019s novel, <em>Jan Karski<\/em>, following the one around Jonathan Littell and his <em>Bienveillantes<\/em>, bringing back the shadow of epistemological debates over the writing of history as much as those on the knowledge of literature, and resuming with greater intensity the quarrel of historiographic narrativism led by historian Carlo Ginzburg against Hayden White, in particular. Take note, as well, of trials for fact-checking against authors of fiction, like Edouard Louis &#8211; who keeps on repeating that \u201ceverything is true\u201d despite the fictional labelling \u201cnovel\u201d stamped on the cover of his works -, against autofiction and the captivating affair Camille Laurens\/Marie Darieussecq &#8211; the former accused the latter of \u201cpsycological plagiarism\u201d- or even trials for character\u2019s rights (Christine Angot, Marcella Iacub and R\u00e9gis Jauffret, amongst many others), as evidence of the worrisome weakening of the border between fact and fictions on the one side, and of increased agency of literature, and of her action on reality, on the other. Take note, in the journalistic field, confronted with the proliferation of fake news, of its resorting, of course necessary, to fact-checkers &#8211; <em>Decodex<\/em> for le Monde, <em>Desintox<\/em> for Liberation, or in 2009 already, of <em>PolitiFact<\/em> as Pulitzer Prize laureate &#8211; which place the Fact, in the line of Frederic Lordon\u2019s denunciation, as the horizon of journalism rather than its starting point, ratifying the confirmation of a post-political journalism. Take note, in the philosophical field, of the grand return to realism, with the \u201cspeculative realism\u201d initiated in France by Quentin Meillassoux, with Tristan Garcia\u2019s realism \u201cof things\u201d, with the \u201ccontextual\u201d realism of Jocelyn Benoist, and many others (Markus Gabriel, Maurizio Ferraris, Jane Bennett, etc.) which, as another contemporary realist, Pascal Engel, would diagnose, coalesced at the same time against the fear of \u201chaving lost the world\u201d and in reaction against the alleged panfictionalist drifts according to which reality as a whole would be nothing but a social construct and, ultimately, fiction &#8211; from Baudrillard (\u201cThe Gulf War did not take place\u201d) to Nietzsche (\u201cThere are no facts only interpretations\u201d), passing by Derrida or Lacan (\u201cTruth has the structure of fiction\u201d).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lepeuplequimanque.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Death-of-Evidence-march-Ottawa-2012.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[gallery-8uuw]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2669 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.lepeuplequimanque.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Death-of-Evidence-march-Ottawa-2012-900x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"534\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lepeuplequimanque.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Death-of-Evidence-march-Ottawa-2012-900x600.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.lepeuplequimanque.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Death-of-Evidence-march-Ottawa-2012-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lepeuplequimanque.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Death-of-Evidence-march-Ottawa-2012-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lepeuplequimanque.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Death-of-Evidence-march-Ottawa-2012-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.lepeuplequimanque.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Death-of-Evidence-march-Ottawa-2012.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 534px) 100vw, 534px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 2016, the literature theorist\u00a0<strong>Fran\u00e7oise Lavocat\u00a0<\/strong>published\u00a0\u00ab<strong>\u00a0Fact and Fiction. For a border<\/strong> \u00bb\u00a0(Seuil), in which she claimed the necessity to defend this border whose reputation is to be definitively confused &#8211; from cosplay and others life-sized and role playing games to documentary cinema, to factualist literature, to contemporary simulation forms, to theater without theater and so on.<\/p>\n<p>What is left, in this context, of deconstruction, of post-structuralist <em>panfictionalism <\/em>and of <em>radical constructivism<\/em>, what is left of the performativity of stories and of counter-fictions, of the cognitive value of fictionality and of the legacy of postcolonial epistemologies that re-evaluate myths and fabulation, what remains, finally, of narrativist, fictionnalist and experimental historiography? Should we then proclaim, collectively, the necessity of distinct cognitive regimes; should we rescue the border between fact and fiction?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fran\u00e7oise Lavocat<\/strong>, <strong>Alison James<\/strong> and <strong>Alexandre Gefen<\/strong> (literature theorists) will lay charges against those who, for decades, have been taking part in this wide blurring of fact and fiction. <strong>Laurent de Sutter<\/strong>, <strong>Dorian Astor<\/strong> and <strong>Fabien Danesi<\/strong> (philosophers and essayists) will speak for the defence.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the trial will oppose the \u201cdifferentialists\u201d (which the defence would rather call, less kindly, \u201csegregationists\u201d) to the \u201cintegrationists\u201d (which the prosecution would rather call, more belligerently, \u201cconfusionnists\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>The lawyers of defence and prosecution will be supported by as many witnesses and experts called to testify as there are voices raised to give thought to this issue which exceeds current controversies. Among them, <strong>Pascal Engel<\/strong> (philosopher), <strong>Claudine Tiercelin<\/strong> (philosopher),<strong> Laurent Binet<\/strong> (writer),<strong> Anna Arzoumanov<\/strong> (literature theorist),<strong> Mathieu Simonet<\/strong> (lawyer and writer), <strong>Maylis de Kerangal<\/strong> (writer), <strong>Romain Bertrand<\/strong> (historian), <strong>Dominique Viart<\/strong> (literature theorist),<strong> Nancy Murzili<\/strong> (literature theorist),<strong> Quentin Deluermoz<\/strong> (historian), <strong>Thomas Mond\u00e9m\u00e9<\/strong> (literature theorist), <strong>Camille de Toledo<\/strong> (writer), <strong>Nadia Yala Kisukidi<\/strong> (philosopher), <strong>Jacques Ranci\u00e8re<\/strong> (philosopher, subject to availability), <strong>Eric Chauvier<\/strong> (writer et anthropologist),<strong> Yannick Haenel<\/strong> (writer, subject to availability),<strong> Pac\u00f4me Thiellement<\/strong> (essayist, subject to availability), <b>Olivier Ca\u00efra <\/b>(sociologist),\u00a0<strong>Jason Kara\u00efndros &amp; Jakob Gautel <\/strong>(artists), <strong>Dominique Cardon<\/strong> (sociologist), <strong>Pascale Piolino<\/strong> (neuroscientist),\u00a0<strong>Alexis Constantin<\/strong> (filmmaker).<\/p>\n<p>The court will be presided by <strong>Caroline Brou\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0(France Culture) and\u00a0<strong>Mathieu Potte-Bonneville<\/strong> (philosopher) ; <strong>Aliocha Imhoff<\/strong> and<strong> Kantuta Quir\u00f3s<\/strong> will be assessors, <strong>Ella Bellone<\/strong> will impersonate the court bailiff.
